One of our favorite weekly charter anchorages for many years was Scrub Island, British Virgin Islands. We enjoyed taking our guests there for dinner. Why? Because their hospitality was special and the restaurant felt like you were in someone's beautiful island home.
Over the last three years, we've watched as Scrub Island has emerged from a simple restaurant run by good friends to a multi-million dollar resort. It's the first of it's kind built in the BVI in over 15 years!
On a recent visit, we were really impressed with the yacht-friendly management, deep-water slips and a gourmet provisioning shop. An afternoon spent at the lagoon-style infinity edge pool with swim-up bar, 15' waterfall and hot tub was a real treat for us to enjoy!
But the best part of all was feeling once again like long-time honored guests at their restaurants: Caravela & Tierra! Tierra! Caravela, the primary dining area, with floor to ceiling windows looking out over the water and a Euro Caribbean atmosphere, features fine dining. Over the last 3 months, we've enjoyed their Veal Oscar, Pan Seared Scallops, Grilled Grouper, Curry Shrimp, Anegada Lobster Bisque and Belgian Chocolate Souffle. We even shared curry recipes with Chef Albert!
Dining at Tierra! Tierra! is outdoor casual and fun. It's a great place to go for a breezy lunch with a superb view. We loved their Friday Night Cheeseburger in Paradise Buffet with a "build-a-Black-Angus burger buffet, steamed shrimp (big shrimp!), amazing conch chowder, fritters, and Key Lime pie.
Explorers that we are, we had to take a tour of the accommodations, spa, private beach and villas. At the end of each charter season, we love to spend a few nights at a special resort before flying back to the states. You can bet that we will culminate our successful season on board s/v Three Moons this year with a stay at Scrub Island. We've never seen such wonderfully appointed resort suites anywhere in the British Virgin Islands!
Occasionally, we pick up & drop off guests at the adjacent Trellis Bay airport on Beef Island, Tortola. It would be an excellent idea to plan a 2 or 3 night stay at Scrub Island after a charter on board Three Moons Yacht. With convenient access to the airport, a beautiful resort like Scrub Island could be the perfect way to end your Caribbean dream vacation!
